Purchasing a Puppy
Frensham Irish Terriers is currently the only Accredited Breeder of Irish Terriers in New Zealand - I am committed to ensuring quality, selectively bred Irish Terriers continue to be available in New Zealand. My focus is on raising healthy, conformationally sound, well adjusted puppies with great temperaments.

Expressions of interest are always welcomed with geniune enquiries being added to a waitlist. Please take the time to read the below section. When puppies be available they will be listed under the litter notices on Dogz Online or Dogs NZ websites; people on my waitlist will be offered a puppy in the first instance.

Ensuring my pups are placed into suitable forever homes is my highest priority.
Usually, I plan to have just one litter per year (over the spring/summer months). I try not to accept too many people onto my waitlist to avoid disappointing people - the average wait time can be up to 12 months as I do not breed litters to meet demand. My bitches always have a minimum of one-year off between their litters; presently I have two breeding age bitches.
An average litter tends to be 6-8 pups, however we have had smaller and larger litters. Unfortunately this means I cannot guarantee a pup will be available, it very much depends on how many pups are born, how many people are already on the list, how long they have been waiting etc. That said, inevitably people do drop off the list, or we end up with a big litter, so anything is possible.
Many people provide excellent information about themselves and their dog-owning experience at the time of their enquiry, and this certainly helps them secure their place on my waiting list. I will kindly request some further background about yourselves, and the home you are able to provide an Irish with, as well as the lifestyle activities you would want your dog to be part of, closer to the time should a puppy be available. Secure fencing and attendance at puppy pre-school is a minimum requirement.
Generally, new owners do not "pick their puppy", instead I carefully consider the personality of each pup and match them with the family and lifestyle to which they are best suited. Whilst all typical Irish Terriers, some will have temperaments better suited to a young family, or adventurous outdoorsy types, hunting, or inner city lifestyles for example.
The price for a pup in NZ is $3000 to $4000 depending on how the litter was produced (i.e. naturally mated, artificially inseminated, imported genetics etc). The price of my pups includes their microchip, first vaccination and health check, plus a starter/information pack. They are all registered on the DogsNZ (NZKC) Restricted Register (pet only) and come with a Sales and Purchase Agreement that includes the requirement for pups to be de-sexed. This agreement also provides a health guarantee as part of my commitment as an accredited breeder. Puppies are not available until they are a minimum of 8 weeks old.
Please note if a buyer is interested in a puppy for breeding or showing purposes this needs to be indicated at the time of enquiry, and will be subject to a suitable puppy being available.
I am more than happy to send pups to their new families, at their expense, via Air New Zealand cargo services. Where possible I do encourage new families to collect their pup in person, but I appreciate this is not always feasible, so I will do my best to work with you to find the most suitable flight option. For information on costs visit https://pettravel.nz/services/
I will make contact with those on my waiting list when puppies are next available to offer them a puppy, and at this time request a 20% deposit to confirm a puppy is held for them. If they no longer want a puppy then I move down the list. It is greatly appreciated if you let me know if you no longer wish to be on the list as this saves unnecessary to and froing.
In the meantime, you are welcome to visit to meet the dogs, and I strongly encourage you to stay in touch periodically while you wait if you are serious about adding an Irish Terrier to your family.
